Hello there!

I've Googled previous threads on the forum regarding to RLP but couldn't find the answer to my specific case.

few months ago I had an incident with shoplifting in Primark.

No police were called, my id was photocopied, phone number taken, address

and debit card confirmed in my bank branch (to confirm the address I suppose).

I was informed about RLP (retail loss prevention; civil recovery) actions

and so I received a letter few weeks after to pay a fine.

I did pay and received confirmation about final settlement.

Case closed.

However now I would like to register in professional council as a nurse

and one of the question on registration paper asks whether I had any civil proceedings

brought against me and if so, to give details about them.

Another point to declare on the registration is that "

I consent to the Professional Council contacting any person to obtain further information

about my application or to verify the information that I have provided".

RLP states that my basic data will be stored in national database of civil recovery incidents.

My question is,

how legitimate is this database and how can it affect me?

I have read previous topic about RLP and ignoring their claims of payment.

what I understood is that RLP is using big words to scare people

whereas they have no legal right to get the money.

Could it be the same with publishing my data?

Of course I am not proud of what I did and it was absolutely stupid to do so

but now I am petrified that because of such thing I might never be registered in my dream job...

Thank you for any help

Sas

there is no such thing

its a figment of jackies imagination

stupid idea to pay them

you simply fund their harassment of other people

can you not do a chargeback if you paid by your debit card.

it is NOT A FINE EITHER

though I gather you now know this.

In my opinion, the question being asked on the registration paper refers to civil proceedings in a court of law. Whilst this invoice from RLP is of questionable merit, it does not count as civil proceedings.

As for the database RLP claims to report to, the company could find themselves in hot water if they released any data without your prior consent. It is highly unlikely that it would affect your employment prospects.

Hi and welcome to CAG

As DX mentions, RLP allege they keep a 'database of dishonesty'. Whether it actually exists is another matter.

Don't even stress about it. You made the mistake of lining their pockets so to them, you are guilty. They cannot disclose any info without your consent anyway.

I bet the NHS has never even heard of the database

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

It says

"Have you had civil proceedings (other than a divorce/dissolution of marriage or civil partnership) brought against you?"

I would answer "No". You have not had any letters before action from RLP, nor have you had any court claims issued.

For what its worth, they do have a Database that they work from and have to register incase it needs to be taken further.

As DX and SF say however, and I would have to agree fully with them, It wont count as a Civil proceedings... This also wont go on a Criminal Record if the police wernt involved a case wasnt brought against you.

RLP are a private firm, they are not the police or any other legal body.

Youll be fine. :)

If you paid via your credit/debit card do a charge back. RPL will complain but tuff... Don't fall for this cr4p again and stop taking stuff you haven't paid for. You were maybe lucky the Police weren't called.

As you can see it can affect you now and definitely in the future. Get your money back....

I have "the national database" on my computer, of what I am not telling you but it is at least as important as RLP's and just useful and as accessible by anyone else. Jackie knows thatshe would be in breach of the Data Protection Act to share the list with anyone and if she did and adverse events occurred because her silly list is fatally flawed she could be sued for absolute fortnes along with anyone daft enough to use it.

Ok then I will tell you what my national database is since you are gaging to know- it is my ebay listings photos. There, scary isnt it?

I suspect that if they did have such a Database and its existence was proven, RLP could well end up facing massive fines and possibly Prosecution - imo they are on dodgy ground even holding a database to issue threat letters - they would likely argue fair usage, but proving an offence was committed would be near impossible for the vast majority of cases - you can guarantee that any CCTV is not kept, unless Police are called, and signing paperwork is not necessarily lawful if pressured into it, guilty or not guilty.
