Quick question about a laptop

We got my niece a Hp laptop for christmas in the middle of december

and it has just come down with a keyboard fault .

 

 

press s and you get sx etc on two blocks ,

 

 

now my feeling is it is a switch underneath that has gone bad ,

 

 

will it be a straight forward replacement or will they send it away for repair .

 

 

she uses his for her homework

 

 

i have reset it to check the keyboard

 

 

so i know its not software but hardware failure .

Usual cause of this sort of thing is spillage. First thing to check for.

 

Keyboards are usually quite simple to replace provided any spillage if that is the cause was a light one that didnt soak through onto the mainboard underneath..

well the thing being is i know there was not any spillage since i was working on it when the keyboard started playing up

 

 

i had finsihed all windows 10 updates ,

and i did ask my niece whether she has spilt anything on the keyboard

and she said no (And i believe her)

 

 

also i cannot see any sign of liquid damage

 

 

and also as soom as i take the case off i would invalidate the manufactureres warranty etc

turn it upside down and give it a good shake and run your hands across all the keys

whilst inverted

then shake again.

 

 

if you look up you laptop on youtube

 

 

its easy to removed the keyboard and clean it if you wish

 

 

usually 2 screws on the bottom with a keyboard picture by them

and some sliders above the number keys sometimes

yup i have done that on my laptops unfortunatly this is still under garentee so i would invalidate it when i remove case cover setc . One last question is i phoned tescos helpline and they say because its over 30 days and under 1 yr i should go to the manufacturer . i was under the impression that the contract and contact was with tescos not hp .

Most of these type of faults are caused by the two scenarios mentioned above; a spillage or something under the keys. Try shaking the keyboard and blowing into the area where the problem is, if this doesn't resolve the problem take it back to Tesco and have them deal with it.
