Motorists may have been wrongly hit with parking tickets in Wrexham’s town centre.

Former chauffeur John Cosgrove believes Wrexham council could owe scores of drivers thousands of pounds after a ticket he was issued in the High Street area was quashed.

Wrexham council tried to get him to cough up for the ticket but, after a legal battle, a Traffic Penalty Tribunal judged the "pedestrian zone" had been wrongly signed by the council without double yellow lines and he did not have to pay.

However, a challenge by the pensioner over how many wrong tickets could have been handed out to motorists and whether the council is going to pay them back has been blocked by local authority chiefs.

Mr Cosgrove believes Wrexham council fears it could open the floodgates for reimbursement claims.
