Carers allowance

Can anyone help me please, my wife gets carers allowance for looking after me. Will she still be able to claim carers when she becomes a old age pensioner?Thank you for any information. pin62.

Not if her pension is more than carers allowance. But her pension credit, if entitled, will have a carers premium.

My mum has an 'underlying entitlement' to carer's allowance though she's not actually paid anything as her pension is too high. As Nystagmite says, it can mean payment of extra premiums on some benefits even if no carer's allowance is actually paid.

Thank you both for getting back to me, my wife will get a reduced pension because of paying a married womans stamp. We have also been told that due to the change in the pension she might get a full pension don't know if that's correct either. Thanks again.pin62.

Age Uk are supposed to be really good at benefits advice, may be worth speaking to them just to check you're claiming everything you're entitled to.

I agree with RMW, AgeUK are great. They will come to your home and do a benefit assessment, help you fill in forms and so on.
