Hi.

I insured my second car around 6 month ago using a broker. They were quite good to start with. However, once they had my money they became a pain.

Wanted photocopies of everything. Licence, mot, log book, service history etc etc.

I gave them all of this. Then another request for the dvla code to check my license for points etc.

I gave them that. Finally I thought.

They are now wanting my current mileage. I have bought and paid for 12 month insurance.

Why do the need this info with 5 month to go? I have never had to do any of the above before.

Is this normal? They are driving me mad!

Many thanks.

They do normally ask for copy of driving licence and V5 reg doc. They may ask for code to check DVLA points. Not sure about service history requirement, unless it is a specialist classic car policy.

Unusual to ask for mileage after 6 months. Mileage does affect premiums, but you normally only confirm this when buying a policy and at renewal. If you declare limited mileage and this increases due to a change in circumstances, you are supposed to advise Insurers.

Which broker is this and what type of policy ? I ask, as it does sound a bit odd and these details may reveal why.

You say this is a 'second car'. If it is on a dual-car policy they may want to check that you are not using it as your 'main car'.

Are there any restrictions listed on your policy about using the second car ?
