Hi I was under stress just before Christmas and was accused of some shoplifting from Boots in a shopping cente. I did not leave the store but I did put some items in a bag from a shop I had purchased some other items from.

I was taken to a detention room and asked to give my details which I did give. No police were called.

I am still awaiting a RLP letter and was not given any documentation.

I am gettin nervous about what Boots will do with the CCTV footage, and when I will receive the letter as I am in employment.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to CAG.

I did notice that you asked this on other threads but now that you have your own, here are my thoughts.

The Boots security staff should keep a copy of any CCTV should they attempt any court action. This I wouldn't worry about as there has been no court cases since 2012 where a retailer (can't name them) got panned.

The Data Protection Act offers you some protection however Boots would be allowed to share with other signatories to the DPA a still image of you if they are members of the Shopwatch/Storewatch schemes. This is done under the guise of prevention and detection of crime.

They cannot make the images public if that is what you are worried about.

If the police were not involved at the time of the offence then there is little chance they will get involved now. if they did, they would be entitled to see the CCTV

If you haven't received a letter from RLP yet, I'm fairly certain you will soon

You have already looked around to see what RLP can do so no need to tell it all again

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

Thanks I'm not going to lie I have done this before but never been stopped, I have well and truly learnt my lesson and am very concerned I will be recognised if the CCTV image is distributed and then they pass on my details to other stores who recognise me from there CCTV and I am then sent further fines and or police show up at my door by getting details from Boots!

You will not be sent any "Fines" ? RLP will likely catch up with you with one of their speculative invoices and you should read other threads to see that you can ignore these.

Boots are not allowed to pass on their CCTV to anyone else or they risk a fine of hundreds of thousands of pounds for breaching the DPA.

The reality is they have better things to do anyway and will have forgotten all about you the moment they sent the form off to RLP so they can bother you instead.
