Hi all

I have council tax arrears totally £594.00

Ive arrived home to find an Equita letter totally £802.00 for enforcement fee's £ 235.00 and compliance fee of 75.00

I have no means of paying the amount in full and I have been given 24 hrs to pay it all.

Please give me some advise as to what to do next.

The bill was for last years council tax currently paying £105.00 a month for current year.

Were you aware of any letters from the Council saying you were in arrears or they were going to Court for a Liability Order against you?

Did you receive a Notice of Enforcement from Equita - if so can you give us the date of the letter, when you received it, method of posting & date you had to contact them by? Was the Enforcement Stage letter - the one you have just received delivered by hand or by post?

  • 10 months later...

I gave a debt if £434 to repay to equita

I gave had a payment plan but broke it when I was made redundant.

Equita now want full payment but I would like to pay off the debt at 184 for a first payment.

Where do I stand with this as I am about to okay it online just now.

I did speak with the bailiff before Xmas but he wanted all otherwise he would add fees

any advise would be helpful.

I m not disputing the debt just want tine to pay.

Thanks

What is the debt about

Have they a levy or been inside your home

They will set payments high so you default and they apply a visit fee

No blood in a stone are you working now

If i have helped in any way hit my star.

any advice given is based on experience and learnt from this site :-)

Thanks for your reply.

No Levy as enforcement order was posted through the door one morning.

Baliffs have not been into my home

I have paid £100.00 towards the debt and yes I am working now but only part time.

My income has been reduced by -£500.00 each month hence debt with council and rent too.

I did send equita an email but then received an enforcement notice.

So do i resend an income and expenditure form?

Thanks for your help.

so this is council tax?

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

The bailiffs will be wanting to collect an unfordable amount that you default on or can't pay

So they can add their fees

If they have not been inside and you have nothing of value outside car ect there is not a lot they can do

If it is a case of bailiffs trying to make you default or not accepting payment arrangement I would complain to the council about their agents the bailiffs

There is no right of entry

No locksmith

No forced entry

No crime in owing council money millions of liability orders are issued each year

If i have helped in any way hit my star.

As the bailiff is Equita, this might be a Capita infested council, as in they run the revenue back office so you think you are speaking to the council, but in reality you are speaking to Capita who just happen to own Equita; see where this is going? In which case complain to CEO and elected leader along with your local councillor if Equita are demanding unaffordable sums.

We could do with some help from you.
