When you change addresses, you have to apply for a photocard when changing the address over. In the last 5 years, I have had 3 addresses.

My problem is the other half. I've no intention of surrendering my paper licence either, I don't trust the DVLA to put my entitlements on the new one. But she's got into this hiring a car lark when we go abroad but you have to have a card licence. You can imagine the ear hole bashing I'm getting!

International driving permits are generally used abroad, thru the RAC or AA valid one year cost about £5.50 + postage

You can renew with a lost license then you would have two, one for you and one for plod abroad.

my card type arrived when I was 70 yrs old with amendments to cover due to age, never changed before 70th so cannot see what you are worried about., paper one cover never changed in 55 years of driving until I was 70.

Is it still the case that those who passed the test years ago and still have the old paper licence keep their 7.5 tonne and 16 seater minibus entitlement untill 70 - whereas if you change it to a new photo licenece you only keep that entitlement untill age 45 and then have to go through periodic medicals if you want to keep that entitlement.
