So, I currently have a Sansa Clip MP3 player. I am looking for a change:

I want to use Spotify on my new MP3 player and can do so offline (ie, no internet connection) if I subscribe to Spotify Premium.

I know that I should eb able to get Spotify on an iPod touch, but I hate iTunes and would prefer an android based MP3 player.

Suggestions please? I know there's the Samsung Galaxy S series. Any other options? I don't want to spend a huge amount either.

  • 1 year later...

I'm not fussed by price, I just want to be able to read again.

I currently have a really old Kindle - the first one with the keyboard. I can't read that one any more. You can't change the contrast. I have a very complex eye condition. Whilst I can see, focusing is extremely difficult. Not entirely sure what's happened recently; but I'm really struggling to read my Kindle. It could be something as simple as the contrast being too dark; but I really don't know.

Someone has suggested a Kobo. But are these any good?

Thanks. I do have an ipad, which is difficult to read on due to how shiny it is. I've just been into town to see if I can find somewhere which will allow me to play around on a Kobo. Only WH Smith does. The Kobo HD (I think) was the best one I could find so far.

I much prefer the keyboard kindle myself, I have a small Kobo I could lend you to see if you like it - I don't like the size of it. If you PM me your address I will get it boxed up and sent to you next week. I had a spate of getting reading gadgets and still keep going back to the keyboard kindle. If you like the Kobo maybe we could swap!

Have you considered speaking with your Optician to see if they would recommend a certain product ?

I don't see the optician like that. I get my eyes tested every other year. Both conditions are incureable and aside from the slow loss of colourblindness, my sight is mostly stable.

Sillygirl - do you know what size your Kobo is please? I've tried the 6" and the 6.8". The 6" is too small for me.

I've now had a go on mum's paperwhite. I did try that one when I went to Siansburys in the week; but was limited to what I could do. You can change the contrast on this. May get this one instead of the Kobo. You can change the contrast on this one. That's all I really need to do. (all e-readers allow you to change the font size)

The voice on the Kindle has been mentioned; but for anyone who has tried the voice, would know it's robotic and rather dull!

Do you have a Waterstones or PC World near to you and would you be able to visit the stores ? I understand they have models available for sampling ?

We do indeed have Waterstones. Not too sure why I didn't think of them. (and yes, I know they sell books!) Don't think we have one of the big Tesco stores nearby.

I would be inclined to telephone before visiting the store, to ensure they do have the e-readers available for sampling, Nystagmite.
