Hi,

Been going through old statements regarding old mortgage with Birmingham Midshires.

Had mortgage with them from 89-04

Noticed a lot of "Other debits/admin fees" with no explanation to them.

Also, every year they charged me for insurance of around £150

Did a quick tally up and over £4,700 of fees and insurance.

Can I claim any of these back?

And what's my first move if so?

you might be lucky with the charges but the SB date on mortgages is 12yrs so could be fun on those going past that date.

did you buy buildings insurance from elsewhere at the time? many mortgage co's added insurance automatically unless you could show you had suitable insurance cover. after all, they wouldnt want your house to burn down and then you walk away leaving them with a massive clear up bill.

As for fees, there was a decision about 14 years ago that many of these should be refunded so if you have only just discovered that yu paid them it would be worth asking for the money back. It would depend on the exact wording of the original mortgage offer/contract but you have nothing to lose by going for it.
