I have managed to finally move supplier for both gas and electric. Unfortunately I still have some debt with British Gas and want to set up a payment plan.

I keep getting hounded by their overseas call centre and it's got so annoying that I have now blocked their calls.

Instead I ring them to sort out any problems.

I got in touch with them and they said leave things until 14 days after supply has been taken over so that they can send a final bill.

Still I keep on getting phone calls day in day out,

I ring them again letting them know I have spoken to someone from their call centre already.

Then I get a letter to say that they will break into my home and change my meter to a prepayment meter.

I rang them about the letter and asked if I could sort out payment plan.

They told me I had to wait until the final bill, so I will do this.

Unfortunately I am still getting call after call (5 times today) have had enough of them now.

I never get to speak to anyone from the UK and even though I tell them to make a note on their system about the plan of action,

I still keep getting bombarded wit calls from them so I have now blocked their calls.

The question I would like to know is

can British Gas break into my home to change my meter if I am no longer one of their customers.

I do intend to pay back what I owe them,

but keep getting told different messages from them so I am now worried they will break into my house when I am not there.

I hope someone can help as it is getting so annoying now.

I think my best plan of action is to keep paying them something

even though final bill has not been sorted yet,

but don't want to be worried about not being able to go out in case they break in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

British gas do not do customer service

They can get a warrant to force entry

Unlawfully IMHO but they do not care about customers old or new

You need to write to them

Formal complaint

Keeping a paper trail

Tell them to communicate in writing only

If i have helped in any way hit my star.

any advice given is based on experience and learnt from this site :-)

no they cant fit a meter if they are not the supplier anymore.

This is weird

I had a debt with British Gas when i moved out of my last property which i could not pay six months ago.

They were more than happy on the phone to set up a payment plan

I owed according to them close to £400. It was agreed on the phone i pay £5.00 per week until the debt was clear, they even sent me a payment card

Phone up their UK operations, it is even an 0800 number. Tell them straight away you wish to set up a repayment plan and to send you a payment card. Give them the current metre reading as well if you can. That will stop any enforcement action

They even confirmed as i had a payment plan in place and if i stick to it they would not default me with the credit reference agencies
