The Department for Work and Pensions has admitted using made-up stories from fictional claimants to demonstrate the positive impact of benefit sanctions.

A DWP leaflet featured one welfare claimant, "Sarah", who said she was "really pleased" a cut to her benefits had encouraged her to improve her CV. "

But after a Freedom of Information request by website Welfare Weekly, the DWP said they were not real claimants.

Hysterical! Like someone wasn't going to do a FOI request when they read DWP literature with a claimant supposedly supporting the IDS 'stick and stick' (no carrots here) approach. 'Yes my benefit was cut, but it was for my own good, so I agree to my photo and story being used by the wonderful DWP. And no I haven't found work yet, but I know that my benefits being stopped for two weeks (when I had to eat dry pasta and at night, sit huddled in the dark wrapped in several layers of clothing and a quilt) was that push I needed to do what is right and good and moral'.

The stories were for "illustrative purposes only",

Since when did a lie in print become acceptable??

Why are the DWP not being prosecuted, or is irritable Bowell Syndrome Smith, Minister for propaganda omnipotent?

Why are we not demanding his head on a plate for the proven liars he and his department are?

What ever happened to those figures being released as to sanctions directly responsible for peoples premature deaths? That seems to have gone very quiet.

I've been maintaining that his head be removed, I'll gladly do it.

And as for the figures of those who have been killed because of the social cleansing the government

is committing, or democide, there is still a petition going round with around 500k signatures on it demanding the

corrupt rotten to the core government release them.

But as we all know, the rich and powerful pee on us and the media tell us it's raining!

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!

The people in this factsheet aren't real
Then what's the bleeping point then????

The really interesting figures are when you start adding up jobseekers + economically inactive people before and since the Tories came into power. Yes, jobseeking numbers go down, but surprisingly economically inactive numbers go up - they go up so much in fact that jobseekers + economically inactive actually equal more in 2015 than just before the Tories came into power. The answer being sanctions. I wonder what the true jobseeking numbers are? It makes it all the more disgusting when you think that sanctions might actually just be to massage the jobseeking numbers to make the Tories look good and get another election win.

These types of figures would be interesting when compared to, for instance, the same number of people who continued to claim benefits (as people who had their benefits stopped) in the timeframe and number of deaths.

Also interesting would be working age deaths on benefits and working age deaths in the employed.

"Also interesting would be working age deaths on benefits and working age deaths in the employed."

That would be too easy to explain away tbh. Its proven that if you are unemployed and seeking work then you are more at risk from stress related illnesses. You could not attribute that alone to benefit sanctions.....unless you had the figures for a continuous period over the last 10 years. Also the impact of a period of unemployment can have life long impacts. The statistics for this period simply have not happened yet.

EG back in the 90's my Dads company went into administration. What followed was unemployment, repossession etc whilst trying to support a family of 6.

He developed during this time a whole host of illnesses and life long conditions but he is still working and passing exams today :)

With that one I wasn't talking about sanctions, but the effects of poverty in general. People in work have plenty that can impact mortality such as stress, rta, workplace accidents, rushing to get ready in the morning and falling down the stairs.

If I ran a business with fake testimonials attesting to how good my products are and how brilliant my customer care is, my integrity would surely take a hit should I be found out. I dare say few of you here would have sympathy for me.

Similarly, if I placed a couple of false references on my CV having secured a position, I could be reprimanded and even sacked from J.R. Bloggs and Son Ltd. should I be found out - even after a couple of years!

So what goes through the collective minds within the DWP that made them not just think they'd get away with this (they need to realise that there is a ''Print Screen'' button on all keyboards), but that it was a good idea in the first place?

The DWP is of course now feral. It is a rogue department. It was heading that way under Dave Blunkett. Under Iain D. Smith it is now broken.

I'd ask Smith to hang his head in shame (immediately prior to resigning that is). But as he is such a shameless individual, I wont hold my breath!

Just noticed this interesting article - its probably caused a few blushes:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/iain-duncan-smith-under-pressure-6276811

I can just imagine all those at the Mirror, especially Kevin (doh) Maguire having orgasms over this, "oh goody goody, we got something".

It will take more than the Mirror to outsmart IDS, he's far too clever for them.

Considering you're a mod on a board dealing with benefits I'm amazed you're an IDS cheer leader.

Now you don't often see the word 'clever' and 'IDS' in the same sentence, do you.

But hey, keep on shaking them pom pom's Conniff. :D

I think you have misinterpreted the post, again - connif is not cheerleading for IDS, he is simply pointing out that the Mirror are no match for IDS !

That's it exactly it Citizen, but hey, let them pretend they are aghast that a mod could say such a thing, though I'm not sure what being a mod has to do with it.

I call it point scoring, someone will be along in a min and accuse me of being a DM reader.

Considering the intelligence of IDS I find that very hard to believe. :D

Well, obviously DM readers are not the only people who are misguided. However, I'm not sure whether his intelligence or lack thereof is particularly important here. The man combines the worldly wisdom of PG Wodehouse with the affable, sunny disposition of Walder Frey and the commitment to openness, honesty and probity of Senator Palpatine.
