So just as a matter of interest I called up Lowell but withheld my number and asked as a general question naming no companies or anything if they had the facility to do what EE have said, and surprise surprise they don't! The person at Lowell advised that my "friend" contact CAB for advice on what I was told! So I have it direct from the horses mouth that they can't do this! So I'm taking it all the way now!

I had a different problem with EE and eventually rang OFCOM for advice. They gave me a reference number and the phone number of the CEs office. They moved things along much faster than had been happening previously.

However one of the EE guys I spoke to said I didn't actually own my phone number and it could easily get "lost" during porting. Whether or not this is true or not I do not know but eventually all my numbers were ported to my new provider.

Correct, the number remains property of the Telco Companies. You never "Own" the number. But saying that, companies dont always see the sentimental value to these numbers
