Hi, I hope someone can help please

I took a loan with Barclays and defaulted on payments when my best friend died

as we were still young the grief hit me so bad I had to go to hospital for a while so couldn't pay my loan.

I've finally got my self together and out of the blue I had a letter from PRA group offering me a reduced payment

I've never had a letter of assignment from Barclays not really had any letters from Barclays that I can remember.

I checked my credit file a few weeks back to check where I am in life as I wanted to move out from my parents and then a letter arrives from pra?

theres been no searches from PRA just report saying about Barclays debt and an orange debt for little money. and the PRA letter said Barclays there client would accept a reduced amount to settle the account and my credit file would show settled not satisfied.

they said pay 600 + so I wrote and said with family help I could pay less but want it satisfied not settled.

I don't know if I've done the right thing and I'm not sure if they've bought the debt if I've not had an assignment letter

. my mum is trying to help me but we don't know what were doing tbh. any help would be much appreciated.

No problem. Also if you cam send a SAR request to Barclays. Bet you there are penalty fees that you can reclaim.

Late Fees

Default Fees... etc

We could do with some help from you.

Hi Shev and welcome to CAG

Send the CCA request to whoever is shown as the current debt owner.

The SAR should go to Barclays with your £10 fee.

Any penalty fees can and should be reclaimed in full to reduce the debt.last

Can you say roughly when :-

1. The loan was taken out.

2. When you started to miss payments.

3. When you last made any payment.

Hi, Thanks for replies.

I will check the files when I took it out when I'm home,

don't know why but PRA are giving me alarm bells

the fact I've never been pursued and

second letter from them has gone from 2000+ to 600 if pay now.

ignore PRA

then they are powerless

they don't own the debt

just remember that DCA's are NOT BAILIFFS

they have no such legal powers

as said already, ignore PRA DCA's

they are nothing to do with the debt bar powerless chasers.

Barclays still own the debt. deal with them.

if a settlement of

then there more than that to be saved.

you cold CCA Barclays, but I think we already know the debt will have an enforceable agreement from this date

my advice is to follow slick132 post 7 - SAR Barclays

get all the statements

then we/you can workout what id actually owed

how much was the original loan for do you remember?

Hi Shev,

The CCA request to Barclays is sensible for the cost of just £1. Once it's sent, collection activity must stop until BC reply to the request.

Do this while you wait for PRA to respond to your lower offer.

You would get agreement in writing that the payment to PRA would satisfy the loan a/c debt before paying them.
