I notice, like all of them, they spout these stupid words but don't offer an alternative.

Unless of course it's simply that she has a social conscience and is using her (for want of a better word) celebrity status to raise awareness of the problem.

Church has been campaigning on social issues for some time. She is entitled to voice her opinion the same as anyone else. Billy Brag has made a career from being a Socialist campaigning musician.

As for the debt issue, the alternative is for the government to obtain the economic growth needed to produce revenues that will pay the debt down.

2 ideas.

1). Government property development investment bonds - people can invest money into a guaranteed bond that will be invested in building properties for new buyers on a shared equity or rent to buy basis. A percentage of the profits made would be paid as a dividend bonus on bonds held for a period. Such a bond scheme could generate billions to build new houses, creating a lot of jobs.

2). National minimum wage increase plus additional employers national insurance incentives. They need to see employers pay a wage that people can live on, without needing tax credits. Employers are using the minimum wage to base how much they pay people, which was not the idea, they need to find a way of encouraging employers to pay a living wage.

Others once again targeted Whitehall’s Women’s War Memorial yards from Downing Street, which was covered up after previous graffiti attacks. Messages were written on the wooden screen such as ‘f**k the Tories’ and ‘Cull Cameron’.

The Cenotaph was also half boarded up and guarded by police.

I don't find it funny that they should spray graffiti over memorials to those who died in the war ?

Ok, we can all do that, but all they ever say is anti this and anti that, never this is what should be done.

Who the hell is Billy Brag.

From a right wing persecctive, I guess you don't like lefties protesting ! This is nothing new, as these protests have happened for decades.

There is a point in regard to austerity and current economics, but I see no point in debating here. I follow such economists as Danny Blanchflower and they can explain the alternative better than I could.

Remember that as a conservative estimate businesses are avoiding at least £30 billion a year. Governments have not got to grips with Internet trading. Amazon for example, have only recently agreed not to route UK purchases via Luxebourg accounting and will pay the correct amount of tax based on UK sales. That was really good of them ! If HMRC were better at getting the taxes due, UK would have less debt.

Frankly, if you take anything the DM prints seriously then you deserve the misery that reading such nonsense brings. How it can ever call itself a newspaper is beyond me, I'd sooner read the back of the bottle of bleach next to the loo.

The problem is people do take it seriously, it's like reading Harry Potter and expecting a triple decker bus to turn up. They say that a country gets the media it deserves. Clearly the DM is for the 'special people'...

Well I took my subject from the BBC website so god only know how the DM comes into it, ah, yes I do, someone trying to score points.

All this crap was the same or started under labours 13 year watch and not only did they bring the country to it's knees, they did nothing whatsoever about taxes and the likes of Amazon etc.

Labours message to the country 'all go out and get credit cards and loans and don't pay them back', ie do as we do.

On the BBC website....

Singer Charlotte Church has delivered an impassioned speech during an anti-austerity march.

The mother-of-two, from Cardiff, joined tens of thousands of demonstrators in a protest against government cuts in London on Saturday.

The 29-year-old said everyone deserved a strong public sector.

Speaking at the march, Ms Church said: "I'm here today in a show of solidarity with everyone here, it is a massive turnout - everybody who thinks that austerity isn't the only way and thinks it is essentially unethical, unfair and unnecessary."

Asked if she was inspired by the surge of the Scottish National Party she said "absolutely".

"We are in one of the richest nations in the world and social inequality is unacceptable," Ms Church added.

"I'm immensely proud to be here. I think this is a brilliant movement and it is for the common good. We are here to make a stand."

It follows Ms Church's appearance at an anti-austerity rally in Cardiff in May.

This all goes back to Mrs Thatcher in the late 1980's, when she went along with Reagan/Greenspan economics, encouraging Banks to lend money. That is when the Banks changed from being the sober lenders who refused loans and credit cards, to being risk takers, issuing credit cards/loans to anyone who asked for them . They even sent them through the post inviting people to use them.

It was also Mrs T who transferred millions from unemployment benefits to invalidity benefit.

The problems did not start in 1997 or 2007.

Are you trying to say Labour is golden and innocent in all the problems, especially the deficit which has nothing to do with banks and consumer lending. We have a bigger welfare bill than all the other bills added together.

Madam T and crew introduced irresponsible lending, unreg etc. Kept the boys happy. Came from USA like her guru. Lota probs come from there, so back to the 80's.

Just spotted UncleB's post, same hymn sheet:madgrin:

Labour continued to ride the financial services boom spending the tax revenues without thinking what would happen if the boom went to bust. The UK economy has had problems for at least 40 years.

Biggest benefits issue is pensions which is not really a benefit as such, but costs a fortune out of current revenues. Government does not put money to one side for future pensions. Next Is Housing benefits which is down to cost of housing when people are on low incomes. Then comes tax credits, which many countries use, so employers can compete against global competitors, keeping wages lower. If they remove tax credits gradually, then pressure will be on employers to pay higher wages.
