I'm not sure if this is n the right place so if it's not, please can someone direct me to the correct forum! I have some bad debts which have defaulted (no CCjs) totalling around. £4k... My husband is unaware and all the accounts are in my name... We have no joint accounts at all. He is reapplying for his security clearance at work and has been asked about financial affairs... He is obviously going to put down no problems as as far as he is aware there are none. What do I do? Will it be ok as we have no joint responsibilities?

Your debts should not impact his records in anyway. So IMHO, I don't see them creating a problem for your OH. But I will ask others on the site team for confirmation.

What type of security clearance is it?

DV, BPSS, EBS???

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!

I got DV many years ago. I had some debts at the time myself, and they ask for your credit report.

All they really want to be sure of is whether your debts are lore likely to accept a bribe. As a previous poster said, your partners debts are not likely to be a concern.

That was a good few years back.

I was approved for SC last year... I had tons of money outstanding, but I was honest... I told them the truth. As for you, you shouldnt need to worry :)

My debts were more fraudulent than anything

We could do with some help from you.

Agreed, it is the employee who is of most concern, they will do their own checks on the wider family if they see fit.
