Hopefully an easy question.

Work in building trade...took some power tools to work as Site agent wanted to do some snagging.

Happy to help out..until I find power tools have been stolen (only about 6 people work on the site),company who is Building the site said its not there problem as they were not used as part of my job and tough titty.

Its my understanding as they were locked in a container with site agent having the key,the firm doing the building has a responsibility for the safe keeping..?

I don't see that you have a good case here. If the tools were yours and not those of the building firm, you should have had them in your control at all times. Leaving them in a secure container does not make those tools the responsibility of the site agent, or of the building firm.

Other will hopefully comment.
