We will remember them.

When you look at the number of people who died during WW2 on all sides, it is unbelieveable.

Military deaths estimated between 22 and 30 million

Civilian deaths due to military activity between 19 and 30 million

Civilian deaths due to war related famine and disease between 19 and 25 million

Overall deaths due to WW2 between 60 and 85 million. So at the minimum end that is about the population of the UK and at the maximum end exceeds the current population of Germany.

Makes you think !

We could do with some help from you.

REMEMBER THEM ALL

Over the hills and far away

My heart lives in a far distant memory

Thinking of things long past

Seeing the tall ships and flags half mast

Remember all the loved ones lost

Fighting for our freedom is what it cost

Fields of crosses and names unknown

Families bereaved , all waiting alone

Poppies of red, like their blood

Sacrifices made, and was it ever understood ?

Pray for them all and never forget

They died to save us and we never met

Let us remember them one and all

For without them, would we be here at all ?

Take the time to stop and thank them

It didn't matter if they were boys or men

Please be proud of what they have done

And let peace surround us, one by one.

Just watching the news and was touched to see a WWII veteran get out of his wheelchair to shake hands with the Prince of Wales. His determination so typical of his generation. Brought a tear to my eye.

I sometimes think that we celebrate the service of those still alive, but then don't think enough of those that gave their life's to ensure the freedoms currently enjoyed. One of my uncles died serving for the RAF months before the end of the war. There were many thousands who died within years of the war due to injuries sustained. Then there were the civilian casualties due to bombing. How many died in factories that were helping the war effort?

We could do with some help from you.
