Dear community,

Was hoping to get some friendly advice regarding an old debt with Barclays on behalf of a family member!

Back in May 2009, an old debt (approx. £12k at the time) was transferred over to Barclay's Central Debt Collection Services (CDCS).

At the time, an agreed repayment plan of £75 per month was set up for 6 months only, following which a review was to be made.

This was the last statement of the account, which stated a 0% interest rate on the account.

Funny thing is, we haven't heard back from Barclays/CDCS since!

We've been paying £75 a month into the account every month without fail since this last statement via a pay-in book; addresses on the account are up-to-date, and Barclays never fail to send us a pay-in book before the old one has run out.

I was hoping to hear from anyone with any similar experience?

I'm not sure of the next steps we should take, as we would like to check on the status of the account

- family member is particularly nervous that payments haven't been making much of a difference and that interest has been building up (can Barclays re-instigate interest without letting us know?).

Could anyone provide any advice as to what we should do? Thanks a bunch!

Littlebo

Could ask them for a statement of account or complain. Have you worked out how much left there is to pay?

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

If my advice helps you, click the star icon at the bottom of my post and feel free to say thanks

You could send a Subject Access Request to B/shark at their Registered/Head Office address.

The request is for ALL data in respect of any accounts you have with them. It should provide you with statements showing any payments made to the account over the last 6 years. It will cost you £10.00 and they have 40 days in which to comply.

Alternatively you could check your credit files - has the balance been decreasing by the £75.00 as they have reported to the CRA each month ?

Do you know if there was any Payment protection insurance on this account or any default / penalty charges that you might also be able to reclaim.

What type of account was this. Secured/unsecured loan - credit card ?

Hi Littlebo and welcome to CAG

Shame on CDCS for not sending any statements over the repayment period.

What's the approx date of the last (and only) statement from them.

When they agreed to accept the £75 per month for 6 months followed by a review, what exactly was said about the review, or what might happen at that time.

:-)

We could do with some help from you
