I know that this isn't a big problem compared to most of the problems on here but I could use a little knowledge on the subject.

My partner moved in with me in January after cancelling his BT broadband account,

he paid his final bill but did not pay the £30 cancellation out of principle as he was unaware that was in his terms and conditions.

They do not know where he lives and have no phone number for him but they do have an email address

which has been passed to Walker Love (correspondence below).

He is tempted to ignore the email but I am concerned as to where this could lead if anywhere.

I have heard of unpaid debts mounting up over years and I do not want it to come back and bite him

so I'd like to know what the real consequences could be?

'We've passed your debt of £37.50 to a collection agency.

We've sent you several reminders but you still haven't paid us what you owe.

So we've now passed your debt to Walker Love Collections, an authorised debt collection agency,

to get in touch with you about paying it off.

We've also added a charge of 25%, included in the outstanding balance above, to cover the cost of us handing over the debt.'

No powers DCA, ignore them.

They wont take action for something this small. Also, Why are BT charging him for cancelling? Was he still in contract?

We could do with some help from you.

Thank you for replying, the contract was over but it is written into section 41 of the terms and conditions

that they charge a £30 inc VAT disconnection fee.

I was previously with TalkTalk and I never had to pay it to them

so it was a surprise when informed about this one.

We are just a bit nervous about where this could lead.

Some people have fought the charge and it has been waived but others have paid it to make it go away.

Ive read up on this £30 charge. Its in their ts and cs and has been authorised by Ofcom...

The 7.50 is something you can ignore, but the £30 might be worth paying. Remember BT Reports to the CRAs. Check your partner doesnt have a default against them.

In my opinion every BB agreement will eventually come to an end, one way or another, therefore they will levy that charge on every customer. That would make it a hidden charge that should have been in the connection charge to be clear. Presumably they don't want to do that so try to charge at the end...

Yes we are in Scotland, I have had dealings myself with Walker Love over council repair charges but I have always just paid them and agreed rate.

well now you know to question what a DCA asks you to pay!

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
