Those mistakes were so ridiculous, someone at Npower should surely have realised that ?

Very true. Also, if they failed to spot mistakes of that magnitude, what about ones that are not quite so large?

Why do you think that?

There are shockers like Npower and all suppliers have issues along with the simple fact people who are unhappy are far more likely to post on forums and review sites, but I have found EDF to be one of the better ones. Any minor issues were more my fault than theirs.

I have had to have 7 refunds due to EDF always increasing my DD for no reason. The reason given was 'I need a large credit on my account just in case it's cold' 4 times in 8 months they did this. 4 times I complained 4 times was given a gwg payment. The latest fiasco 14th January when I moved on to the new blue price plan agreed for a DD of £40pm they increased this within 3 days to £80pm. Yet another complaint and yet another gwg of £70.

A total of of over £400-00 gwg's annual bill max of £575 worth of usage. So not to bad but my point would be their system makes some serious errors and they have now admitted this in writing...

P's I am registered in the Priority group too...

Npower do this as well MM - I am in credit yet they have still raised my DD, only by £6.00 a month, but it doesn't make sense!

I have had a supervisor lock the DD screen and explained that when readings are submitted it may increase the DD amount. My solution was no readings till October '16 then wait till the next annual review. So time will tell if they have done their job right if not another complaint...

Yes, every time you submit a new actual reading, all the companies seem to recalculate and 'auto' adjust DD's.

Wish they did to me what they do to you LOL - all donations gratefully received.

Its my understanding that the companies should aim for a zero balance at annual review, but few of the companies systems seem to do this, all of them seemingly targeting a significant + balance - some much more than others.

Npower and British Gas seem to have been by far the worst in my own experiences.

Even worse is the apparently widespread practice of these companies seemingly trying to keep any outstanding balances when you transfer and close the accounts. Boy do you have to chase them to ger it back - but I only ever seem to get £10-25 GW gestures. :(

Oh well I guess I must be lucky. But then again 5 years on CAG HAS taught me to take no prisoners.

Once they know you know how to complain to the relevant bodies then they tend to be more accommodating.

The last time I moved they 'lost' nearly £290 in payments. I got that back too. I created my own billing spreadsheet and works so well I can even tell them what my DD should be. I have now yet to have any form of credit over £15 at any point in the month. If I do I ask for a refund. Or not pay the next DD.. 😆

Folk here might find the pdf at the following link interesting

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem-publications/83041/directdebitfactsheetjan2015englishweb2-pdf

as of 2015 it says npower should refund any amount over £5 at annual review provided a meter reading has been given.

Thats changed a lot if they do

Regardless of point in the year and you have a credit with EDF and you give them a reading they will refund you.

Although I have had issues of a small scale I am happy with them. Yes things could be better but going to npower not a chance. I've been with EDF for some time now and feel that the service they provide is far better than some of the other big 6..

I have seen this too as an EDF customer, just as the linked report says, and |I would rather a monthly DD is increased as soon as my usage increases so submit regular meter readings online - very simple.

If you dont want that, then just submit the annual one when they email you a reminder.
