I asked them under the freedom of information act to give me a full explanation and they refused on there grounds of data protection... does this constitue defamation of character and can any of you guys help me out on what i can do please...bingo63

You would need to request the data by way of a Subject Access Request - this would cost you £10.00 and they have 40 calendar days in which to comply. You can use the draft letter I have linked below.

Send the letter by tracked mail and to their UK Head/Registered Office.

ebay can do business with whoever they want to, as long as it's not on the grounds of a protected characteristic (race, religion, sexual orientation, etc).

What can you do? Buy/sell your stuff on another site.

You must work for Ebay with a response like that....I just want to know the reason not be given some statement of breaking ebay policies

They are unlikely to give you any meaningful or specific explanation. Their SAR (if you ever get it) will be worthless. They won't want a prolonged debate with you about whether something is true or false or fair. They certainly won't be more helpful if you mention defamation (which is a hollow threat, anyway).

Sorry, but this is just how eBay are. They operate on automated systems and low-status call centre operators, decisions are made by flowchart and algorithm. The cost of one fraudster will wipe out the profits from 100 honest traders, so if there's any possibility of concern then it makes financial sense for them to protect themselves. You don't have a right to do business with eBay, you don't have a right to know why they are declining your business. But if this is how they are treating you, why would you want to do business with them?
