Is "Universal Jobmatch" DOWN ?

I've been trying to log-in all day, as I have to give account of what I've been doing to find work, but everytime I try to log-in it comes up with a blank page.

It's only just started working properly. I left an "activity note" deploring how useless the site is.

If you have similar troubles (sorry, that should read when), take a screenshot and include it in your weekly job search bundle. If you get any comment from a JCP adviser regarding a lack of entries for the day in question, you'll have evidence to wave in his/her face.

Hi Mr.P,

I took one screenshot once it finally logged-in, but despite logging-in, the site still wasn't working properly, and as you will see in the Screenshot, this was within the last couple of minutes of Monday, so I was unable to record today's activity in time. Funny enough, the site started working properly pretty much as soon as it turned to Tuesday.

Maybe I am a cynical sod but I am still a firm believer that when UJM goes 'down' itis done on purpose to trap people in to a sanction. What you have to remember is there are plenty of ways to record your job search activity other than UJM which quite frankly is not fit for purpose and never has been.

Apart from the first 2 weeks of signing on I never used UJM after that but luckily my JCP adviser at the time understood (basically he also knew it was a pile of dung)

I still maintain that a lot of jobs on there are fake or agencies gathering information. I will give a prime example of this:

A client of mine at the local work club where I volunteer was mandated to apply for a job at Marks and Spencers warehouse in North Essex - the UJM had the job on the site. Before I done anything on behalf of my client I called M&S head office and asked about the job - can you guess what the conversation entailed? Yep, there WAS NO JOB. I wrote a note to JCP my client could take in with details of the call, a number , a contact name basically saying if you want to check this please call this person.

I would not touch UJM - delete it and record your job searches in your own way. Whilst you are at it, revoke JCP access to your UJM as well

I never used UJM after the first two jobs I was 'selected' for had already closed (luckily I am 'tec savvy' and did the screenshots to prove it.

A lot of the job sites will give you an activity summary which lists which jobs you have applied for, how long the application took and various other info which were acceptable to the local job centre and to the local work provder Prospects.

Don't forget to also print out details of your mobile call log and highlight when you have contacted agencies (most agencies don't even bother to call you back unless there is money in it for them anyway) and any other calls you have made which are 'work related', including calling tax office, DWP etc etc etc.

The more paperwork you can throw at them the more they will realise you don't need 'intervention' although after a time they will insist on it.

Add to this, the requirement to "check and/or search UJM daily" is a fast track route to a sanction. Even if the UJM is working, it makes no allowances for technical failures elsewhere. e.g. My internet connection was down for most of yesterday, if it had happened over the weekend, there would not have been any 'free' access at the library. In the past, I have also suffered outages that lasted for over a week.

Absolutely. Though they should be going by quality, they much prefer quantity - and they barely even glance at it anyway. When I signed on after Christmas the adviser said 'Oh, I see you were even applying for jobs on Christmas day and Boxing Day, that's great'. I replied 'Yes, because I knew you'd all have been told by your manager to check those dates in particular'. Her lack of comment told me I was right :)

If anyone is due to get their Claimant Commitment interview, make sure that nothing about 'finding X number of jobs on UJ' gets added to your agreement. If you can, try and have no mention of UJ at all on your commitment form, but we all know the advisers are told to promote it, even though they know it's rubbish.
