Hoping to go away a few times this year and am looking at travel insurance. I've been given quotes that range from £30-£100 ish. But is there really that much difference between the insurance that each company offers?

I've had a look on compare the market and put my details in to see what comes up. I am aware that some compaies won't come up on comparison websites.

Yes there can be quite a lot of difference, but it depends on what your requirements are. If you are arranging different parts of your holiday, rather than a package booking, you might look at companies who cater for this with an 'independent travellers option' which cover missed activities, flights and accommodation during the period of your trip.

If you are going away 2+ times this year, it is probably cheaper to obtain an annual multi-trip policy covering the areas of the world that are required. If it includes the USA, it is usually more expensive due to their medical costs, which are ridiculously high.

Check to see whether you have any Travel Insurance with your Bank account, as some include this. If the standard cover is not adequate, you can usually extend paying the extra required.

I don't have any recommendations, as it depends on what you want. If there are any medical issues or anyone has been to their Doctor in the last year or had any tests for anything, you should be very careful. Insurers do check with peoples Doctors on claims over a certain value before they decide whether to pay out for medical claims. If in doubt, declare the information.

We could do with some help from you.

Thanks. :)

The plan is 2 (maybe more) trips to Europe. I've had to also check because some policies do exclude Malta and a few other countries too.

My bank won't cover me because of my pre existing medical conditions.

I won't be doing a package holiday - it would just be flights + hotel. The current plan is that I will just be booking them myself - seems to be much less faff than getting a package holiday.

If you have any pre-existing meds, it is probably best to phone Travel Insurance specialists such as Direct-Travel or Essential Travel.

You don't want to arrange the cover online and then end up with a problem later. Better to be able to give full information and know that you have the cover.

There is a company called EHIC Plus who can provide cheaper cover within the EU area, as the cover is a top up to EHIC.
