Can you advise of a suitable law firm that could help with my appeal against Unum who have rejected liability for a policy I have paid into for 10 years. I have been confirmed as too ill to work by GP, consultant and awarded total incapacity but Unum have rejected this.

I would really like to discuss with an experienced solicitor please. I am in northern Ireland.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Yes, give us some detail. You generally don't need a lawyer with these problems.

Hello there.

I also had a battle with Unum over income protection insurance. They told me there was nothing wrong with me when everyone else thought there was, so I sympathise totally with your predicament.

Just to doublecheck, this is your own policy and not one through an employer?

Can you type up what reasons Unum gave for refusing your claim please? Don't put in any personal details.

  • 2 months later...

Unum have rejected my appeal they say that despite two medical specialists that their medical officer does not belive that my illness stops me doing my occupation. This is despite the department of education awarding Total Incpapcity Benefit. I am really down about this. I have paid and enormous amount of money over the years and it seems wasted. I was told there was nothing I could not claim for. What a sucker. What can I do please??

Couple of questions:

- Did you submit a claim while still in the deferred period?

- What is the definition of incapacity on your policy?

- What is the nature of your illness?

It would be useful if you could scan up the policy documents for your cover, please ensure you block out all sensitive information.

Once I was told by a company consultant that I was fit for work when in fact two other consultants (one nhs, one private) had said that I temporarily wasn't.

I followed the occupational health complaint procedure and of course I got nowhere.

Then I complained to the general medical council.

The doctor was investigated and the company sent me to another consultant who agreed that I wasn't fit for work with a 3 minutes consultation.

I was then asked to withdraw the complaint but i didn't.

I never knew what happened to this bent consultant, but surely he landed in a very awkward situation.

Follow the complaint procedure of the doctor's employer and when that it's exhausted ask for the doctor id number and report him to the gmc.

You'll soon get a result.
