Hi guys,

I am about to buy an ex rental car from Hertz and I was wondering if it's worth doing an hpi check or just accept the one they will provide.

Also, on a separate note, do I have to register the road tax in my name even though the car is road tax exempt?

Thanks

You still need to apply for road tax, it will just be issued at zero cost. Remember failure to apply is the same level of fine as not taxing a vehicle does need paid road tax.

So who is this total car check?

Will they have all the information that HPI has?

They, like lots, have jumped on a bandwagon so will you get the full picture or will someone come knocking at your door in a few months saying the car has finance?

I think I would rather pay a few pounds extra.

Having said that, I don't think I would use any when buying from such a large and well known company, it will be easy to get redress should all not be in order.

Full hpi check is a bit more than £3. Don't skimp on a check. Especially when it could mean you are risking hundreds even thousands of pounds.

You should always get hpi on any second hand car no matter who you get it from.

Hi, I got the car yesterday on a rental basis for 10 days and if I go ahead and purchase it they will knock the £10/day rental off the price.

It's basically a new car, apart from an almost invisible scratch on the bonnet, I can't fault it.

I haven't done the hpi check yet, but i will surely do it, just in case.

I don't want to get to the first service and being told the car was registered as a total loss 😱

Thanks for your help.
