A shadow was cast over an otherwise perfect Christmas yesterday.

Every year we have a box of Jacobs crackers and every year the Hovis biscuits shaped like little loaves disappear first. My son opened the box full of anticipation but there was soon a piercing cry. What the hell is this? Where's the hovis biscuit? This Jacobs digestive is no substitute!

A picture of the offending biscuit on Facebook sparked a heated debate about whether a digestive should be with crackers but there was no doubt in my household that it belongs there.

Can anyone shed light on this glaring omission to the Jacobs cracker tin?

I wondered if it may be something like that uncleb. Looks like I'll have to buy a separate packet to avoid disappointment in future.

Last year (2013) my son, then aged 27, rang me on December 1st as no-one got him an advent calendar and I was his last hope. I let him down last year so made sure I got them for him, his gf and my daughter in good time this year.

Whatever will need to be done next year to avoid disappointment?

Agreed citizenb. It's like selling off the family silver. Both are quintessentially British but seems that matters not a jot. Multi-nationals can do as they like! :-(

Big business already runs the country. They avoid an estimated £30 + billion in tax, by moving the profits to fund investments elsewhere and it is totally legal.

The politicians allow it happen and they get millions in donations to their parties, plus loads of well paid directorships, as presumably the price for this help.

It was recently revealed that the Thatcher goverment used the security services and diplomatic channels to get hold of National Union of Miners funds that were held in Luxembourg Banks back in 1984. So when there is a political fight going on, UK politicians will find many ways of gaining access to foreign banked money.

We could do with some help from you.

Tell him that he's a big boy now and if he can't cope with the ensuing devastation to get them himself.

The upside is you will never have to scour the shops for advent calendars or hovis biscuits ever again.

The downside is he could be so psychologically traumatised that you could be investigated by Social Services for child abuse.

Apart from a slightly worrying obsession with lego I'd say he's well enough balance to survive these traumas relatively unscathed. ;)

On a more serious note, years ago I read a book called The Captains and the Kings, in which it was the captains of industry who ran the country, acting as puppet masters to politicians. It certainly seems that way at times, although I suspect no-one could have controlled Margaret Thatcher.

Ain't that the truth!

As was revealed recently, Mrs T was partly responsible for the wreckless behaviour of the Banks as she signed up to the Reagan/Greenspan casino Banking industry, which would eventually end up in a massive bust in 2007/08. In the papers released by the National Archive, Mrs T was warned back in 1984 that there could be severe consequences to loosening regulation of Banks and allowing them to create massive amounts of additional money.

So I am not sure about puppet master, more like a muppet.

We could do with some help from you.
