This is very worrying ?

Health chiefs are to launch the biggest patient recall in NHS history, over fears that thousands could have been infected with HIV.

More than 22,000 patients are to undergo tests after being treated by a dentist who did not follow proper procedures over a 32-year period. They will also be tested for other blood-borne viruses including *hepatitis B and C.

Thousands of patients are being recalled over fears they could have been infected with HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

A public appeal has been launched today to trace 22,000 patients who were treated by dentist Desmond D'Mello, who allegedly did not follow proper procedures over 32 years at Daybrook Dental Practice in Gedling, Nottinghamshire.

Desmond D'Mello has been suspended by the General Dental Council and up to 22,000 former patients may have to be tested for blood-borne viruses.

It is said he did not wash his hands or sterilise equipment between patients.

Experts said the risk of infection was believed to be low but thousands of people who used the practice in the Nottingham suburb are to be recalled and offered tests for HIV and hepatitis.
