Hi.

I have applied for first Provisional Driving licence as I wanted to get 125cc scooter,

all I wanted was A1 category and than I was about to do CBT.

Today I found it in my letter box and it was issued for category A and B (I take it that has happened because I`m over 30 years old?)

Does it means that I can drive any bike right now without supervision?

Also do I have to do CBT?

I have never done one as this is my first licence,

I`m about to get 125cc anyway to learn how to drive and that do an upgrade.

If anyone could explain this to me please.

Thanks

NO you cant drive any bike without supervision as your licence is a Provisional Licence you are required to complete CBT

So far as I am aware you cannot ride on the road until you have completed CBT. The entitlement on the licence would be to be on the road only after completing CBT and then only on L plates until you have completed the relevant full test for that category.

stu007 I did read all this informations before and its not clear for me what I can drive now unsupervised, all I wanted was A1 and now I have A licence and not sure what I can buy.

I would do CBT as soon as I get bike :)

Does it meand soon I do CBT I can drive anybike on public road without any supervision?

of cours I know about the L plates :)

There are flowcharts here explaining in more detail https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/366858/routes-to-your-motorcycle-licence.pdf

If you are over 17 then you need to take CBT before you can ride an A1 class on L plates - no supervision required after CBT but not allowed on public roads at all until CBT is taken

Complete the theory and practical test for that class and you can then ride A1 without L plates

Other age and test requirements exist for larger bikes

is my understanding right, if I complete CBT I will be able to ride any motorcycle with L plates on? As I`m over 30 years old and have Provisional A licence or do I have to pass some test before I can do that?

No you can ride upto a 125 once you have passed your cbt but must still display L plates and you're not allowed pillion passenger. Once you have passed your cbt you can either go direct access for A or A1 due to your age.
