A few months ago, I bought a mobile phone off eBay, paid for it via PayPal, no problems at all, used it for a few months without any issues.

Decided to sell it recently as needed the money

I bought a cheaper phone,

the buyer wanted to meet up and pay cash,

I offered them a discount to send it to them special delivery,

they refused and insisted on meeting and paying cash.

Met the buyer, they checked out the phone and paid the cash,

the next day they messaged me saying the phone is blocked

and won't work and demanded their money back which I have refused.

I find this very odd.

Where do I stand?

Thank you for your time, much appreciated.

By "checked out the phone" : they got to try it & see that it wasn't blacklisted?

Before selling it, did you take down the IMEI, so that when they try & return it you can be sure they aren't trying to return a different IMEI phone of the same model?

They put their sim in and messed around with the phone then handed over the cash.

I met them in the middle so 20 minutes each way for both of us.

I didn't take note of the IMEI but I don't see how they will return it as they paid cash and I have refused to take the phone back because they tested Iit before they bought it and insisted on paying cash.

Also, they could be trying to pull one, also if it was really blocked then it must have been done by a previous owner, I bought the phone off a pawnbroker through Ebay a few months ago.

Even if you do have the IMEI, as the buyer paid cash they can't get a refund through paypal, so just ignore them.

If you really wanted to find out the IMEI, you could ask your mobile number provider what IMEI was associated with your mobile number on a particular date/time.

Got this message earlier.

"Hi dodgy phone seller last nigh I report to eBay and to police about selling dodgy phones and rip off insurance company and my so bee aware what's will happen to you in nearly future. Good luck to playing seek and hide."

Don't know what he means by insurance company and how can he say I'm a dodgy phone seller? I bought it off Ebay myself a few months ago.

Also, that sounds threatening.

wait for ebay to let you know a dispute has been logged;

Ebay are generally on the side of the buyer! only contact him through dispute procedure.

so if he says phone does not work, you will have to ask him to send it back and give a refund.

Now he should send it signed for/tracked etc. if not he cannot prove he sent it, so they wont take money off you, although they may still refund him!

Not sure what happens if buyer has not got a paypal account for them to refund to?
