I suspect that the letter does not say the debt is wiped?

simply that they are no longer going to chasing you?

they'll just sell it on I bet.

have you ever sent HFC an SAR?

bet theres heeps of PENALTY charges & PPI to reclaim

hi dx100uk

the actual wording is[

as part of our regular account review process

we have taken the decision to write off the outstanding amount

and close your account with us.

as a result,

this letter will be the last contact you will receive from lowells ,

we trust you will be satisfied with this outcome]

dead right im satisfied.

the key bit there is 'with us'

that means they'll sell it on.

expect more trees to be destroyed

but the wording says they have written off the outstanding amount and closed the account so that suggests that will be nothing to sell on

I think you should just wait and see what, if anything else happens, billbob.. the wording is as dx points out, quite ambiguous.

I very much agree with dx and Citizen B on this Lowell are extremely underhand with this kind of situation,.

My suggestion would be to write to Ms Sara de Tute Lowell's Director of Legal & Compliance and ask for assurance that

the alleged debt will not be sold or assigned to any 3rd party for collection.

For your own peace of mind - send the following letter.

Dear Sir / madam,

Any Lowell Reference

This letter is to confirm my understanding of a recent letter sent to me by Lowells (DATED) and a telephone conversation I had with a representative of your company today.

Your letter is ambiguous in that you have "written off the debt and that I will not be hearing from Lowells further on this matter".

My understanding from the telephone conversation today is that this account will also NOT be assigned/sold to a 3rd party.

Yours faithfully,
