So essentially you could purchase a small spray bottle - perhaps plastic which is lighter and wont rust - and add your own water from the tap ?

You can get the small spray bottles from a range of stores.. including Boots

Please don't knock it!

Maybe it could be described better but, as a woman of a certain age, it is a godsend in hot weather to cool down quickly.

There are two versions and one of them also contains alcohol which gives a more intense cooling feeling. And the cans are even better when placed in the fridge.

A small spray would work (and would definitely be cheaper)...but not really give the fine mist the aerosol can does and runs the risk of spilling in my bag.

The French do the same thing in a can that is probably more above board in saying what it is as the name is actually "Evian"!

cplatten - I hadn't given thought to a plastic container perhaps being squished in someone's bag, so a good reason to go for the can.

Still a bit of a cheek though IMHO

I'm not disagreeing. But when we had that really hot spell and I was in the Underground Heat of Central London, it was worth its weight in gold.

At the same time in August we went on holiday to Paris and I was pleased to see the Evian cans sitting in the chiller cabinet of the supermarket - next to the bottles of Coke and water! Again, the spray felt like Heaven after the heat (and smell!) of Paris.

Sorry to be so pedantic but as I've been struggling for health reasons in hot weather I had to stand up for the product. Especially as I had a hard time finding it at Boots as it is so strange.

You could make your own for 'zero' cost. Just go into Boots or other retailer, see if they have any bottles free as a trial, clean it out, add some water, bingo.

It is not in bottles...it is in aerosol cans to make a fine spray that isn't so fine with a plastic spray type bottle.

Plus the cans are light and sturdy and quite slim in a bag - suitable for travel without spillage.

The item is marketed for travel in hot weather. The one with alcohol in it is extra chilly on the skin.

I'm fairly sure it can be made at home with a plastic spray type bottle, it will do the job.

I usually take around a washing up bowl with water in it, ready to dip my head into it when ever I'm hot.

WOW! I never thought of that one! Thanks for that. If I put it down on the seat next to me on the Tube it might stop some oversized sweaty bloke from sitting next to me!

(Or at least it could introduce him to the concept of water...)
