Hey all,

Today i was caught shop lifting from boots.

.. i dont normally do this but i just did it and got caught,

the guy took my details and

i lied about my name but not my address.

.. i dont know why i did but i was worried about future jobs,

im only 19 and

im worried about the fine he said i will have to pay,

they refused to give me water and

i was confused when they kept making me sign things and not giving me enough time to read them.

.. im currently waiting for the letter how long will that be here?

also i cant afford to repay it,

the value of the item was £12 and

he was like it will cost £130ish and

they didnt lose anything out of it.

will they be able to get money off me?

oh dear well they cannot 'fine' you

and should NOT be using that word

and they know it

all they do is forward your details on to RLP

then Jackie writes a nice missive to you

claiming you now owe £147.50

its a speculative involve

and can very safely be totally ignored

Hi Norman and welcome.

I would like to expand a little on what has already been said but firstly, if you feel uncomfortable going through the shopping centre to get to the bus station, is there another route you could take? Shopping centres and stores allow visitors 'by invitation' and can remove the right when in then becomes trespass and while they could remove you I can't see them bothering. They have more important things to get on with.

You are over 18 so no one else can know about your incident. The fact you gave a fake name will mean that letters to your address may raise questions, especially if you live with others.

As for RLP, any letter they send is an 'invitation to pay' nothing more. Only an official body can fine you (criminal court) The security guard was talking out of his rear end when he said 'fine'.

You will receive many letters from RLP full of legalese which mean nothing and then they will pass this amount on to their pet DCA of the day who will also try to get a response. \they can do nothing to you unless they buy this fake debt (which they won't do)

The only body that can take action is Boots and they are very reluctant to do so as they got the stuff back so no loss to them. Also, if you feel you want to, look at the RLP website and see where RLP have 'won' cases. RLP haven't won any. These are cases won by the stores involved and RLP just publicise them on their website. Also note when the last case was 'won'. July 2012. If they feel they had a case with other shoplifters, why are there no more cases listed? makes you think!

As others have said, ignore the puerile threats.

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

As for the use of the shopping centre as a thoroughfare you would need to check if there was a public right of way over the land, sometimes there is and if that is the case they cannot stop you from walking through. If there isnt then there will be an alternative route so use it until they have forgotten all about you (probably about a fortnight)
