Morning CAGgers,

I have as some may remember on here, started the transfer from IB to ESA approx a year or so ago.

Since sending the form ESA50 (I think!) in, I never heard anything at all. As I was aware from on here, that it could take months whilst I waited for the medical appt etc.

Well yesterday morning I got the brown envelope in the post. Finally me thinks!!

Surprise surprise, I've been put straight into the Support group without a medical!

Does this usually happen??

Now on the form it states what I'm entitled to & I now will actually receive more money than I did on IB. (Again lovely surprise).

So my question is, on the form there's no end date, it just states that I am entitled to ESA & how much I'll receive.

So how long do I get ESA for?

Or does it run like the IB did?

Thanks babes!!

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every single minute of it!!

Your ESA will remain in payment until you are assessed as being fit for work provided you meet any other conditons.

In theory at least reassessments should happen on a regular basis, the interval between them being entirely at DWP's discretion hence some people being reassessed after 3 months and others not at all. This latter is particularly true at the moment because of the backlog of assessments and may go some way to explaining why more people than usual are being put in a group without a face to face assessment.

As part of the assessment process, whether or not a face to face assessment is done, the ATOS healthcare professional will have made a recommendation as to when reassessment might be reasonable, and if you ask DWP for a copy of the report it will be on there. I can't remember the name of the form just now, it's a slightly different one for no face to face assessment, but if you ring DWP and ask for a copy of your ESA medical, I'm sure they'll know what you mean. Even if you're not particularly interested in how long you might expect to wait (and it is only advisory anyway) I would recommend getting a copy of the report for your own records and to assist in filling in your next ESA50.

I think the form RMW is talking about is an ESA85a?

I think you're right, thank you. Though I'll have forgotten again in about 10 minutes. I blame the medication.

Many thanks indeed RMW!

So am I right in thinking, that even though I did not have a medical or even spoken to anyone since sending in my ESA50, that whomever made the decision on my case has a report of their findings & it's this I need a copy off? (apologies if I've misunderstood but medications I'm on can & do affect my thinking)

Thank you Nystagmite!

Lol Dyfed, thank you, yes my migration has taken a long while as I had to wait until I received the ESA50. Which finally turned up a year ago!!

I've been on IB since the 90s so I've no idea if this had any affect on the time it's taken!!

I was totally shocked & pleasantly surprised to go straight into the Support group, with no medical or further input from myself other than my completed ESA50. (Which took me a couple weeks to fill in).

For which I'm thankful off, as I have read on quite a few threads on here about the Medicals!!

So I will do as RMW suggests & ask for a copy of ESA85a for my records. (as long as I can remember I do have it, lol, as I'm just as bad as RMW for remembering things)

Thanks again Ev1 indeed!!

There still will be a report, yes. I didn't have a face to face and got into the support group too. I appealed DLA (ESA was awarded around the same time) and requested that DLA contact ESA just in case there was something that would be relevant to my case. I was then sent a bunch of papers which did include the report from ESA.

on my report from atos the comment was that I am unlikely to improve long term, and I have ended up in support group without a face to face, and they gave a 2yr time on it.......I guess they cant just say long term or never re assessed etc. So we shall see what happens next time, the dwp told me that I will come up for re assessment in January 2016, by the current news that atos will be gone by then I can only wait to see what horror will replace them haha............well done though and enjoy the peace.

I was astounded that on my report as well as the name of the disability nurse who made the report, but also the name of the decision maker who put me in support group, I didn't ever get a decision makers name before ......

Thanks indeed to you both, Nystagmite & Ruby!

Ruby you say they gave you a 2 year time on your report, So this (a time frame) should also be on my report that I have to request?

See I never knew you could request their report until I was told about it on this thread.

I've read so many "horror stories" about medicals, where blatant lies have been told by the ATOS Drs/Nurses. Also about how so many people going through the IB to ESA transfer were scoring 0 points & loosing their benefits & having to appeal, which all takes many months & untolds of stress to get through.

I was literally dreading it, as I'd need a home visit & even for that request, you are put through the mill....

So I now count myself extremely fortunate indeed, well done to you both too!!

We will all have to wait & see what happens next once ATOS has gone, just hope whomever replaces them do a better job & make it less stressful for all those concerned!!

Thanks again to you all for your help!

I had two pages sent to me........one was the atos nurse's report stating I am ill likely in the long term. The other was the decision makers report, which says 2 yrs. From what I gather 2yrs is usual in a case like mine, its quite rare I think to get a longer time, because of the set up of re assessing etc. I am guessing it was the decision maker who gave the 2yr decision in the end. The nurse had said unlikely fit to work in the long term and not within 2 yrs.
