My girlfriends car suddenly started to shake and loose speed on the A12, so she pulled into a lay by and used the SOS phone. The person on the phone advised them all (Her, her disabled mother and niece) to get out of the car and wait on the bank for Green Flag to come out.

Green flag said they would take an hour, but after an hour, she called them back and they said they would be another hour. After that hour, she called back again and was told that they are still looking for someone who can come out.

It wasn't until two and a half hours did someone actually come out. Bearing in mind this was during very hot weather, and they had a young child with them.

I know green flag tend to refund £10 if they are more than an hour late, but surely two and a half hours should be at least a couple of months free??

She has sent a letter off to complain, nothing back yet. Is this worth pursuing?

I had the same thing happen years ago on the side of the M2 in Kent. Waited hours for someone to arrive. When they did it was a contractor with a ancient recovery truck with no seat-belts !!

All they offered me after a formal complaint was half price membership for the following year ! As if I were going to renew

As Brig has advised - make a formal complaint to their Head office - mention that there was a disabled person and child and very high temperatures.

Last year the AA never turned up to help me, either.

I am disabled, and I was stuck at traffic lights in Stoke on Trent, at the front!

They managed to telephone twice to tell me that they were "Too busy helping people" - I managed to get a push from some very kind passersby, after 90 minutes, and got to a garage.

Then the AA told me that they would renew my membership, but at nearly double the price, presumably because I'd had the temerity to call them out!

I am with "rescue my car" now.
