So yesterday morning I paid an overdue gas bill that I couldn't really afford but just wanted rid of as they were threatening doorstep collection.

2 hours later a letter came through my door offering a 20% discount on the debt. Saving £60!

To say I'm fuming is an understatement...

Anything i can do?

Did you pay the gas company or a DCA?

Also, if they want to threaten doorstep collection... let them.

Doorstep collectors have zero legal rights anyway.

If one was to come around,

simply tell them to get lost or youll call the local police.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

You fell for the DCA's trap. Plus discounts means the debt is likely UE in some way. Maybe charges etc.

What happened is you fell into arrears, it got passed to a DCA. You fell for their silly empty threats about doorstep collectors and everything else. You paid, and then when the mail arrived, found theyd sent you a discount letter.

I'm not sure if you will be able to get the money back, hopefully someone else can advise.
