Hello all

in august last year my husband bought a used car from the car people.

They had mot'd it,

done their inspections etc and all was good.

We have just had it mot'd and it failed.

Couple of wear and tear issues but one was that the lights to illuminate the rear license plate weren't there.

Not a blown bulb ir anything the entire thing wasn't there no brackets no bulb holders etc.

Now that is an instant mot fail its also illegal (ive recently discovered)

the garage has said there's no way its come out as its screwed in its been taken off.

Now luckily its hasn't been driven in the evenings so it hasn't been an issue

but my question is can i go back to the car people with this.

It hasn't been 12 minths since we bought it and it was either missed on the last mot

or passed despite that either way not good.

Do i have a leg to stand on with this?

thanks in advance x

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

If you are sure that the lights weren't there from the beginning then yes, you have a solid claim. Don't worry about 12 months. However, as has been suggested above, you need to make sure that there is no evidence that they were there before.

Hi there, dx100uk its a Vauxhall vectra.

Bankfodder, three different garages have informed me its not possible for it to fall out as it is screwed into the chassis and sunk into it as well. There is no sign there had been one recently either.

thanks for replying x

As Vauxhall Vectra's are quite common vehicles, would it be plausible that maybe someone has taken it off at some point? It may sound strange, but it does happen, we actually had someone steal a parking sensor from the rear bumper of our 2007 Ford Focus, which set us back nearly £90 to put right.

I honestly can't see that you would be able to pursue the dealer directly on this one.

You will need to show that the lights were not there at the time of purchase but that will come under the 'faults that should reasonably be expected to have been noticed at examination at the time of purchase'.

You could ask the seller to get you some at cost price.
