Hi Everyone.

My daughter recently traded her car in which she had paid outright for ( 07 Audi TT) and bought an ( 04 Golf) which I found strange.

On questioning her I found out her partner ( waste of space) was short of money.

They were given £4000 back in cash by the dealer and her car finance now has a settlement figure of £11,000.

My question is,

surely this is loan sharking?

or something similar.

Many Thanks

no I don't think it's illegal, just very creative.

your daughter has obviously got into a bad relationship and needed to raise some money, and instead of trading in the golf and getting £4000 in cash it looks like she has now got the golf on credit and got as much cash as possible out of the deal in order to give the waste of space as much money as possible.

Actually if that deal is over 3 years then it looks like an APR of about 15% which is not particularly cheap in this day and age but has no comparison to the like of Wonga that charge 2000%, and if the finance is maxed out to the car value (which it is) then the APR will generally be more as the finance companies are not so keen to lend with little or no equity in the car.

But, although it might be hard for you to hear I do rather feel that Wonga might well be the next step she takes once the useless BF has spent this lot of money.

Doubtless you've already thought of that!

so the receipt for the car and the HP doc show different purchase prices? If they do that's dynamite and Carcraft are defrauding the finance company.

however if both docs show the price as £11k, then it's not illegal, just creative and very near the mark.

Hi

She traded in her Audi TT which she owned and has now got an older car on 4 years finance

- this is not the only thing I am trying to sort out of course,

she has wasted all her grandparents inheritance on this item

and further debts totalling approx £17,000.

He wonders why I have great problems relating to him - lol.

Mmm.. hardly a lol moment but I know where you're coming from.

If it's over 4 years she's now got to find £225 a month for 4 years and will own a 14 years old VW golf at the end of it.

Meanwhile, she cannot get out of the car as she owes far too much money on it.

I really don't know what you can do to resolve it all, the more you tell her what a waste of space he is the less she will take any notice of you.

Bloody nightmare!

What is showing is

on credit form vehicle cost is 11050 less 3500 deposit credit amount 7550 total payable after 4 yrs is 14398

On Carcraft sale contract it shows VW golf 10999 + tax disc 51.33 p/ex 7500, cashback 4000 finance 7550

hope this makes sense

The figures are the same within a few pence.

I don't think there's any legal way out of it, and even if there was, the only way would be to walk into carcraft with £4000 cash and get the Audi back.

Guest Carcraft Customer Service Manager

To the OP:

We think we have located your daughters account, however we have a 57 Golf on the system and not an 04. Due to this being a finance query, I am unable to advise directly to you due to data protection, however, If your daughter calls us on 0800 923 9495 and puts you on her account, we can look into this and discuss it further with you.

Thanks

Linzi

I appreciate the comments made by the member of Carcraft, and will of course ask my daughter to give them authority to speak to me, but, before speaking I still want to check the full implications of this situation. Perhaps someone independant would like to comment? Many Thanks
