P45 is the form that you get when you leave a job. It shows the amount of tax you paid so far in the current tax year.

P60 is the form you get at the end of the tax year (First week in April) usually from your employer if you are working. It shows you how much tax you paid in the past tax year up to April.

Sure the Jobcentre could tell him how to get it if he hasn’t got it so far.

He was unemployed on the 5th April so I thought the JC gave him a p60 at the end of the tax year

They should do, yes. I believe that P60s are supposed to be issued by the end of June. End of year tax action (as it's known at the DWP) is a major event and it does take time to get through all the claims.

Might be later this year if they have been drafted in to reduce the Passport backlog !!

I think it might be the Inland Revenue who send out P60s and not the Jobcentre.

He could ring up the JC and ask them about it.

Calling to ask would be a good idea, yes. JCP acts as your "employer" for tax purposes when you claim certain benefits, so it is their responsibility to issue the P60.
