Hi all,

I bought an S5 on the day of launch from Argos however it has developed a fault with the front camera. It seems it's fairly known with the first batch possibly - camera works but there is what seems to be a plastic/metal piece that is covering half of it. It's come out of nowhere and is behind the screen. I work in phone repairs etc so I know it's not a crack etc.

Normally I would expect repair or replace but with the S5 being water proofed from manufacturer, I am unsure how a repair would work as the seals would be broken and no longer water proof. Its; the reason we do not touch S5's and the Xperias that are water-resistant.

So any idea before I try and find a local Argos on what they would do in a situation like this?

Obviously being without a phone this day and age is not really on. The condition of the phone is as new and still has the various stickers in-place. Boxed items also are unused.

Issue is seen here:

Thanks in advance

PS: I did check Argos site yesterday but not much on it - the site has been down for 12 hours + so can't see anything more.

Hi 8j84

Not all, some forums.

Your covered under the SOGA:-

Ask Argos to replace / refund, if it's a known fault with that phone/camera ask to change it for another phone/camera.

If they say 'No', speak to your card provider, ask to do a chargeback (visa debit card) or section 75 claim (credit card) .

A phone with a camera function, no doesn't change anything.

Brill thanks

I should point out it's a phone not a camera - it's the front camera with the issue

Does this change things?

A phone with a camera function, no doesn't change anything.

Just thought I would update as it's been a few weeks

I went into Argos (another branch) as I saw they had them in stock -

Initially she wanted to book in for repair so I stated that while I don't mind and have another unit for now, I strongly believe the phone cannot be repaired and still maintain it's water/dust right function.

She seemed to agree and in checking further, realised there cannot be a repair made for the S5 on their systems and so "unforuntely a replace or refund" would be offered.

Obviously I did not mind either but wanted a replacement so we went for this.

By the time I got there, only 1 was left.

I was in and out of there within 5 minutes and that included an irate person who shoved me out the way to complain about a fan she bought where the tape for the box had peeled slightly

Excellent service by Argos and especially that branch. I'm a happy chappy so thumbs up

Thanks for your help :)

Annnoyingly, I wrote a reply but didnt go through !

All sorted - went into Argos, explained and showed her the issue

Initially wanted to book into repair but I explained a water/dust tight device would not be repairable for the fault at hand.

She agreed and then realised this unit cannot even be setup as a repair on their systems.

Walked out 5 minutes later with a new boxed S5- Excellent service all-round

Thanks for the advice on here!

Glad you got it sorted, seems a bit mad that they can't be repaired though. Surely they must be resealable again, as they would have been when made. You can repair a waterproof watch for example with no issues, odd.
