Just looking for some advice.

On Monday, I have been awarded hardship as I have been sanctioned from my Job Seekers, anyway I signed on today and when I got back, I have just rang benefits office up to see if hardship payment as been sent out and got told by advisor that no hardship payment as been sent out yet.

Does anyone know when I can expect hardship payment to go in my bank account? :(

Hardship payments are normally paid in on the day you would receive your normal JSA, but they can take a week or two to set up. Also, no hardship is payable for the first 14 days of any sanction period unless you fall into one of the groups classified as "vulnerable" - pregnant, young children at home and so on.

I am not in a vulnerable group, so when can I expect payment?

i dont see the point in sanctions if u can get hardship money end of the day we all make mistakes but dont deserve a sanction.

i would say withing the next 2 weeks u will get it

What was the sanction for and how long?

Have you launched an appeal?

Do not forget you may need to do a nill/reduced income claim with your housing office for council tax/housing benefit relief.

-----------------

Hardship Payments

If your benefit is sanctioned, suspended or disallowed, or there is a delay in making a decision on your claim, you may be entitled to reduced-rate hardship payments of income-based JSA. Payment is not automatic, and in most cases you must show that you or your family will suffer hardship unless benefit is paid. Unless you fall into a particular vulnerable group, no benefit will be paid for the first two weeks.

The applicable amount is calculated as normal......but is then reduced by 40% of the single person's personal allowance. If you, your partner, or your child are seriously ill or pregnant, the reduction is just 20% If your partner is entitled to claim income support, they can claim it for both of you. It is not subjec tto any reduction.

JSA Regs 145+ 146G

You may be entitled to hardship payments if you have no JSA in payment for one of the following reasons.

-There is a delay in the decision on your claim for JSA because of a question about whether you satisfy the availability, actively seeking work, job seeker's agreement or claimant conditions for benefit.

-Your benefit has been sanctioned.

-Your benefit has been suspended because of a doubt about whether you satisfy the availability, actively seeking work, job seekers agreement or claimant commitment conditions.

-If you are not available for work or actively seeking work or do not have a current job seekers agreement or claimant commitment, you may still get hardship payments, but must be considered to be vulnerable (see below) even after the first two weeks. However, this reason will not apply if you are treated as unavailable for work.

Yeah, that is one less thing to worry about, I am just great full my housing benefit is not being affected by Job Centre. reason why my advisor sent my claim to a decision maker is because I couldn't find any suitable Jobs within Burnley area. however I applied for Jobs in Rochdale, Preston, Bury, Bolton and Manchester but guess what? that wasn't good enough. I was sanctioned for not applying for enough Jobs. I can't apply for Jobs if the position is not suitable as its wasting my time and the employer's time as well :(

Well the sanction is the 1st offence I believe so its 4 weeks I have been sanctioned for, I should have got paid on the 14th. I think my sanction ends on 06.06.2014

You really should be appealing this.

If you do not appeal then they win, apathy towards this sort of JCP behaviour means they get away with it more and more. As estellyn says, you need to appeal this in the strongest possible way - if you don't they will target you as an easy touch

i agree appeal for this.

how far have they got u down to travel they have me down as can travel up to 90mins to find work.

but i dont get end of the day if u find a job in just say Preston then the job centre would be happy that you are off benefits its not like you are not trying to find work u are so i dont see why its a sanction so from me and 2 others above u should be appealing this

Does anyone know what this means?

This morning, benefits office rang me up stating I am going to get my hardship payment at some point today or at midnight tonight, however I have just rang up to confirm if its processed the payment and the advisor on the phone couldn't check because it was done by clerical payments. what does this mean? does it look like I am not going to get my hardship today if its done by clerical? if no, then why did the advisor tell me I am going to get payment some point today :(

I have no gas, my electric is running low :(

I have just looked at my bank and still no sign of the hardship payment.

Well, does anyone know what clerical means? sorry if I am being pushy but need money :(

Sorry, missed this. If your payments are made clerically, it usually means that there's been some sort of computer error on your claim (not because of anything you've done - the JSA computer system is 20 years old and was crap even when it was new) and so your payments need to be handled manually, with pen and paper. So most processors can't actually access details of your claim and any payments due.

JSA processing offices usually have a specific person or people allocated to handling clerical claims.

Because of this lack of information, I'm afraid I can't say how likely it is that you'll get paid today.
