hi there, I have recently been made supervisor in my workplace although I work for an agency. On Tuesday 29th April 2014 the Manager at the place I work told me he wanted 3 specific members of my staff going on performance plans as not working to a good standard, however work was that busy that I didn't get round to doing this.

However on Thursday 1st May My agency manager was in and the work manager asked my agency manager to have a chat to these 3 staff that I supervise, so just as shift started my agency manager pulled the 3 of them aside and surely told them to up their games and told them he expects better.

At the end of the shift I had 2 complaints about these 3 staff by saying they had been very loud, not doing their work and giving them a headache, they also asked never to be put on the same section as them again. So I explained the situation to the work manager and asked him if he would accompany me in the office whilst I had a chat with these 3 members of staff.

When I had them altogether in a room with myself, my fellow supervisor and work manager I calmly told them I had received 2 complaints about all 3 of them, as soon as I said this all 3 of them started shouting and arguing denying all accusations, I then told them I would be putting the 3 of them on performance plans as asked by the work manager on Tuesday 29th April and I would monitor them over the due course of this period, still they continued to argue and shout.

Then the work manager asked me and my fellow supervisor to leave the room whilst he had a chat to them, when the manager came out he told me he has decided against putting them on performance plans, of which he then asked me how do you feel about that, and my reply was I think this is the wrong decision after you told me you wanted them on performance plans in the beginning then my agency manager had a word with them and at the end of the night I had 2 extra complaints.

My theory is that the work manager has got scared after the way these 3 staff spoke to me and him during the chat and I think he has backed down from them, the next day my agency manager came in and told me he has taken the supervisor role from me, me feeling very disappointed and upset.

And after going back into the warehouse to continue working and then finding my fellow supervisor has put himself in charge of the work and told 1 other person to go on the back of a lorry without any training (of which this annoyed me I reported this and then had my fellow supervisor having a go at me) before loosing my temper I asked if I could leave early and was granted permission by work manager, my agency manager said he would note this on my profile and I would have 1 point on disciplinary of a 6 point process before getting the sack!

also before I left work I had a chat to another manager on site and explained my situation, he told me I should never have been told to put anyone on performance plans as this was not my job, It was the managers job who told me to do this!

does anyone have any advice for me and can tell me what I can do now. what could I get out of this?

I have changed the title of your thread - using what appears to be your own real life name is probably not a good idea :)

I have also popped some spacing into your post to make it easier to read.

I am sure someone will look in with some advice for you over the weekend

Hi - you say you work for an agency - is your contract the type where you could be let go at any time?

"What can I get out of this" is an odd question. What sort of thing are you looking for?

I signed a contract at my induction, ad yes I suppose it more than likely is a contract where I could be let go at any time, but I don't think I'd be let go as I've been trained already to be yard Marshall out of maybe 70 others, so im possibly being invested in, also been told I'd be trained on other things in next few weeks as our current volume of work is doubling over next few weeks.

Also, yeah I mean could I fight for my job as supervisor back? Could I sign up to a union and ask them to do something for me? What do you recommend I do? I'm only 22 I was chosen to be supervisor as I was supervisor at my last job until my contract ran out :( so I've never really been in this situation

Hello there.

I think it could well be worth your while joining a union for the future, but they won't always help you as soon as you sign up, which is understandable.

I expect the guys will be along later with comments on your other queries.

Afraid not. Focus on doing a good job, head down, and wait.
