Hello everyone thanks for looking here. Could do with some advice. My mom got a urgent notice from rossendales collect today whom I'm assuming is a DCA concerning council tax. Its the first my mom has known anything about it as its not on her bill and the local council has never asked for it. She's lived in the same house since 1983 so I would have thought if she owed it would show on her bill. She's retired. Any way the bill is for £493 which my mom simply does not have. When she called them they told her it was from 2000/01. They said something about it being a liability thing but I don't know what they mean because I didn't speak with them. Is there anything she can do? I won't go into too much detail but things like this have happened to her before with overpayments from the 80s & 90s which literally add up to £1000s and if they take any more money from her state pension its going be difficult for her to live.

A Liability Order I think, The council has applied to the magistrates for a Liability Order for unpaid CT.

It would b best to contact the council to get full details on this alleged debt.

I take it that this Rossendales acting as a DCA and not their bailiff division?

Has your mother submitted an I & E summary to the council?

There is a strict limit to the amount that can be deducted from state benefits, ("the minimum amount the Government has laid down that you need to live on) is there any other household income?

Any Letters I Draft are N0T approved by CAG and no personal liability is accepted.

I don't think its the bailifs division as it just said urgent. If it was a liability order wouldn't my mom had other letters? Because this us the first she had heard of it. Currently being deducted from hers and my dad pension is around 30 to £40 per two weeks they're really at the limit of what they can live on as it is because of the deductions anymore would put them in the red. I've been trying to get to the local mp all day but only getting his answer machine not sure he could help but thought he might in dome way.
