Hi all.

Iv purchased a 1999 reg land rover freelander off auto trader through a dealership.

Thing is I don't know if this is a full on dealership or some other form.

I have their name but the car was purchased from a big posh house out in the country

with many new 2012/2013/2014 plate audis and bmw's for sale on the estate.

iv bought this car after reading the description saying how it has x and y and has mot till October. Good runner etc etc...

No mention of any problem.

And the dealer said nothing about problems either.

Intact he said and I quote

"you won't find a freelander of this age as good as this. Iv been using it on weekends to go shooting.

But I can't offer warranty on a car this old"

Only had the car just over a week and there is some very loud scary noises coming from the back end.

Iv asked around on land rover owners clubs and forums and they said it sounds like the rear differential

which is an emergency repair and will cost big!!

What are my rights to taking this car back?

I part x'd my car for this one too

He gave me only £400 for my car forcing me to pay another £400 for the freelander using my debit card. And he now has my old car up on auto trader for £1500.

The dealer was Williamson Cars in Doncaster.

I understand I was naive rushing through a deal selling my car which is worth a lot more than the £400 he have me but that car was a car with memories I wanted to part with and when I saw the good looking condition of the freelander and how I got all the spiel of how good a runner it is and it has full history etc etc... Now I'm a lot of money down with a car that is potentially going to cost me more to fix than it's actual value.

I'm going to ring them in an hour or so and see what they say. Can I mention consumer rights and fit for purpose?

Yes you can and ignore any 'sold without a warranty' nonsense. Nothing the dealer says can over ride your consumer rights.

It's not fit for purpose, for that price I would expect a year out of it at least. 1 week is unacceptable.

Just a quick update. Called them this morning and they told me to bring it in and they'll look at it. Took it back to them at noon. Mentioned the problem in question which there gonna look at over the weekend. Also mentioned the little problems like the sunroof not closing using the button and the front doors central locking not working (having to use key manually to lock)

They just said those are small problems and they won't touch em and it's my job to fix them but they will look at the crunching noise from rear.
