Hi Folks,

Ok I have a Barclaycard, (worst decision I have ever made). On a recent trip to Berlin I inadvertantly used it when checking out of the hotel. I was not quite sure as to what balance was on it but the payment went through. Today I received a letter stating that it was over its balance by £32.00 and I need to pay the £32.00 immediately and there will be a charge applied.

Now, to me this is not responsible lending but simply a way for them to extort money. If they were responsible they would have declined the payment and I could have used another card.

Surely there has to be laws out there preventing them from doing this.

Joe

Hmm, now how would you have felt had the payment been declined and you were made to look an idiot at the hotel ?

You obviously had some doubt as to the balance, it might have been an idea to check on your return so you could have remedied the deficit sooner.

Hi Peeedoff and welcome to CAG

If this was a one-off error on your part, they are likely to refund it if you call and ask them nicely.

Pay the over-balance £32 asap to put the card back within limit. Also, pay an additional amount so that, when they add the next lot of interest, you will still be under the limit. Otherwise, you will get another charge and that will be more difficult to get refunded.

:-)

We could do with some help from you

Thanks for the answers folks - i would have used another card or my debit card but it was too late before i realised it was my personal one and not my company one!

I don't care about being embarrassed! How many people have been conned out of money this way and have not bothered complaining!

Hi Peeedoff,

Like I say, just ask them to refund if it was a one-off and get the account safely under-limit.

If BC will not refund, come back and we'll offer any help you want.
