Hello again

had a letter from Hampons yesterday re my outstanding dept of £61.98, from an old EE mobile phone contract,

it has a default date on my Credit Expert report of 10/10/2008

It also lists 8 missed payments leading up to that, so i would class that as over the 6 years since any payment was made to the account

this lasts letter has made all kinds of threats of court action if i don't pay, but at the same time, has offered a 50% discount to clear the debt

now i am thinking, if i pay it, will it hold any benefit to me, will they actually take it to court for such a small amount,

could i ask them to remove the default from my credit if i pay it, bearing in mind it will fall off in 5 months whether i pay it or not

its really not hurting me, i still have a credit expert score of 979 with it there

any ideas ??

they are offering a discount what does tell you about the legality issues?

if it were real, why offer a discount?

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

thanks for the reply dx

so should i just carry on ignoring them ?

part of me thinks i should pay it just because im in the process of buying a house,

and i dont want it to bite me in the ass sometime in the process

though saying that, it would have shown when Abby as well as The Woolich, and the Halifax all did credit checks and still all offered me a Mortgage, so i doubt it can hurt me

its just the tiny chance they could try to take me to court

in their letter they said they have looked at my credit, and know i can afford to pay it

  • 4 weeks later...

hello again,

i checked my credit expert report today,

i do it every day as i am in the process of buying a house, and

the default i had, with the default date of 10/10/2008 has vanished :-)

my score now stands at 999

why would it have gone now ?

shouldn't it have stayed on until the 10/10/2014 ?

also, can i tell lowell to get lost now ?

sorry, the creditor was EE mobile, until it went to Lowells a few months ago, EE never wrote to me or asked for the momey

the only time they contacted me at all, was to tell me they had sold it to Lowell

now its gone from my credit report, do i just ignore it now ?

I've created a thread for this debt.

I certainly would never ring a DCA! ever!

though for £30 it worth it in away

but you MUST MUST MUST

get it in writing

it will not be put on the cra file

hi again, i rang credit expert and asked them if this fell off my credit file,

or if Lowell had removed it,

they said Lowell had removed it and it will come back under the name of Lowell

so i then rang Lowell,

they said that it will reappear on my credit file at some point in the next 50 days,

we had a long discussion ( good job i used my works phone )

and they said nothing could stop it going back on,

it was going nowhere so i rang off

as i am in the process of buying a house with a Santander mortgage,

i really don't want any surprise's before i complete so i rang today and paid it off in full

my question's are,

before they took the default off, i had a score of 979,

the removal put it to 999,

when it reappear's, will it drop back to the original 979,

or will it act like a new default and hurt my score bad ?

also, now it is paid could they just not bother putting it back on ?

or will the fact that it is now satisfied have a more positive effect, that before its removal ?

the conversation i had with credit expert was very telling,

what i pay monthly to see on my report, bears no relation to what companies see when they search it,

the day i complete on my mortgage, is the day my credit expert subscription ends

thank you for any advise given

8 missing payments and only £61 in debt? That doesn't sound right. Are those 8 missed payments all for the same amount? If so then they probably stopped providing the service some time before the default & I think that would be the date when the 6 year clock started ticking. Try sending a SAR to EE, or ring & ask for the last payment date.

org default date was 10/8/8

if you had 979 before and they mortgage people were ok with the default

[which would be the issue with a mortgage normally]

then paying it was a waste of money unless you demanded the default is not returned

however it was only £60 so no big deal.

the 8 means that for 6mts the outstanding balance was not paid that's all [credit expert use 8 in the monthly listing to show default]

not 8 payments of that amount were missed.

if they do put the debt back up

it will show settled but with a default

however it will drop of 10/8/2014 never to return.

paid or not

the whole account on your cra file vanishes on the defaults 6th birthday

as you say dx, it was only £60, no biggy

its out of the way now, and there is still a chance they wont bother to put it back on my credit report, time will tell

once im in my new house, i will forget credit scores, they wont matter :-)
