Car Road Tax

Sorry if in wrong place but hope someone can help

 

I thought car tax for cars over 1.4 cost more then for cars under this?

 

I am asking as just sold my Focus LX 1.6 on a 52 plate, road tax for 6 months was £96 something. I have purchased a 1.4 car that the tax says is same price? well looked it up and it says 6 months is now £99 for a 1.4 and 1.6?

I am also curious why it works out more money for 6 months then for the year, it is £180 for the year!

The car I have just got is on an 03 plate

The emissions tax rate depends on just that. The emissions. For instance, there are a lot of cars with 2.0l engines that are cheaper in tax than 1.2's.

ype had a 1.4 petrol that was 230something a year now got a 1.6tdi that 125 a year

car just got is a PEUGEOT 307 style estate, 2003 reg Petrol

You need to check the emissions. if it's high, you'll pay a small fortune. if it's low, you'll be laughing. For instance, an Audi RS6 3.5l can be around £500 a year. Where a merc of the same power can be less.

'For cars registered after March 1st, 2001, the DVLA car tax rate (Vehicle Excise Duty) is based on the car's CO2 emissions and the type of fuel it uses.' prior to that is re engine size. looks like you're band g re emissions.
