to cut a long story short

I finished cancer treatment in 2012

got into a awful amount of debt

my dad had cancer treatment at the same time but he died,

my marriage fell apart I am on ridiculous amounts of medication including 2 types of anti depressents,

i live in a housing association home which I moved to from a larger housing association house to be nearer shops as I had to sell my car as I had rent arrears

I have no assets

everything is in my husbands name,

i look after my 3 year old granddaughter so my daughter can go to work,

the debts are around £15000

which are mostly credit cards and catalogues,

i have managed to now keep up with the rent and council tax

but have piles of letters

and court orders from capquest and others

I am trying to save to go bankrupt but as this is now £750 it is going to take a while

I need help with how to tell creditors I cannot pay and tell them I need to go bankrupt

I have asked them all to start bankruptcy proceedings against me but they wont,

now a capquest court order from Northampton has come again today

and I just feel like ending it all if it wasn't for my granddaughter I think I would please help

Hello there,

It may be worth contacting a charity called 'Turn 2 Us' to see if they can find a charity or trust fund that might be able to help you find the fee; here's their website: http://www.turn2us.org.uk/

How old are the debts, what type of debts are they? Can you remember when they were last paid?

If you debts are below £15,000 you might wish to consider a Debt Relief Order. These are far cheaper than bankruptcy (£90) and a little simpler too (there is no court hearing, for example). Here's a link for further information on those:

https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/37%20EW%20Debt%20relief%20orders%20(DROs)/Default.aspx

If you can provide us all with a little more information about the debts that would be great. There could be alternative options open to you too. If you have court orders against you, these will need to be addressed urgently, you've come to the right place for that. Here's a link to our 'Replying to a county court claim' fact sheet:

https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/20%20EW%20County%20court%20-%20replying%20to%20a%20claim%20form/Default.aspx

Very best wishes,

David @ NDL.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

McMillian only help while you are receiving treatment or just after

I think the best answer is copy some of your letters stating why I cannot pay a

nd inform them I will be saving for bankcruptcy

and take it from there,

there are no energy bills or rent or council tax

only bank accounts and catalogues

does this make any difference thanks

ok well i'm not going to push it, but maccys helped my neighbour 2yrs after treatment finished

as she was suffering lymphedema & depression they did help.

I think you need to get a thatthread going about the court letter

thatsyou priority.

as a side issue

most cat debts and bank accounts are heavily inflated with £12+ PENALTY fees

and unlawful charges

all of which can be usually reclaimed

if you want to list you debts please do.

but concentrate on that court claim.
