Faulty appliance delivered by Currys.

Washing machine delivered late afternoon today.

 

Guy removed the old one and plumbed and plugged in the new one.

 

He said it was ready to go, so I assumed he'd switched it on and off to confirm this to himself.

 

Once he'd left I tried it but there's no power whatsoever.

 

I've changed the fuse but it's not that.

 

I'll be on the phone first thing tomorrow, but what are my rights? Surely I'll get a replacement?

 

They can't have the brass neck to to take it away to repair or order a new part when it's not worked from the word go?

 

Any advice or experience like this from Currys from anyone?

Assume nothing.

Check it yourself, unless you need an adult to do it for you?

Once checked if it still fails to work, then by all means, give them a bell and have them come back out and check it, if it is faulty then

a replacement would be the minimum to expect.

like plug another device into the same power socket to check its not a dead power trip.

They will try to take it away for repair.

 

Firmly tell them no!

 

Under soga they must give you a replacement or refund.

 

I had similar dealings with currys and only a letter to head office solved it, so don't bother speaking to the store where you bought it.

 

Also take the serial number down in case they try to flog you the same machine after they fix it.

 

One more thing,

even if the machine comes wrapped,

check the back panel screws; if there's any sign of them being damaged, reject it.

 

It's quite easy to spot:

if the machine has come straight from the factory the screws will look brand new, without any damage to the pozi recess in the head.

 

When these machines are repaired they're opened by hand, thus damaging the screws head.

 

I see more and more repaired appliances sold as new when in fact they've been refurbished.

But definitely this is a case of refund/replacement under soga.
