A few months ago I subscribed to a website which required giving my card details.

I gave them the card number, expiry date, CVV as requested, and thought nothing of it.

That card then expired at the end of January, and being honest,

I totally forgot about telling anyone the new card number.

However, when I checked my bank statement the company were still taking money using the debit card details

I had given them previously.

The card number is the same, but the expiry date has altered, as has the CVV number.

So how can they possibly take payments off a card that no longer exists because its out of date.

Its not the fact they've taken the money, because tbh I was quite happy to carry on with the subscription anyway,

its just the strange point that a company can charge a debit card on account details that no longer even exist.

Is this normal ?

Have you not been provided with a new card (new expiry date) ? Have you closed the account ?

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Does that apply to the card or the bank account ?

Supposing we were to contact the bank and ask for a completely new card

saying the one we've got now has been lost,

surely they could not carry taking the money.

Surely its the card number that's relevant to them taking the money, not the bank or the person.

In which case its odd they can use a card number with matching details that are actually out of date.,

you need to go read up about CPA..

its quite legal.

however you appear to be confused

either it is the same card number [16 digit]

and the account [the bank account] IS still open.

you posts say two differing things.

however, I hope this is not a pay day loan etc

taking money they are not entitled too?

When a debit card is changed the CV2 code, Expiry & Issue Dates are changed.

The Card number itself is retained except up to the last 8 digits...

EG; Lloyds Tsb 4921 8164 5632 9001

Visa Debit

Thisll change to 4921 8164 5632 9009

Its just an example and has no merit of any actual cards details ^__^

CPA can be used for a continuous payment, (Gym, etc) however your banks policy on CPA can vary so id double check it.
